Cupping Therapy

Serving the Greater Los Angeles County Area including La Verne, Claremont, Glendora, San Dimas, CA

It’s to the surprise of almost no one that cupping is becoming more popular ever since one swimmer in the Olympics was seen to clearly have the characteristic marks of a recent cupping session.

At Recovery Lab of La Verne, we understand entirely why an athlete would use this therapy, and we’d like to share both the cupping therapy itself and the reason why it’s so great if you’ll do us the honor of reading on.

Cupping

  • What Are The Benefits Of Cupping?

Cupping literally creates enough suction to pull your blood to the area the cup is placed on. As you doubtless know, getting the blood flowing to an area helps in so many ways, among which are:

  • Decreased Recovery Times
  • Less Muscle Tension
  • Aided Detox
  • Lessened Inflammation

All of these benefits are ones you’ll start experiencing to a small degree from the very first session. Additionally, it can be quite relaxing, which we’ll get into more in just a moment.

  • Who Is Cupping Suitable For?

If you want to help your body detox while also relieving some of your muscle tension, you are a perfect candidate for cupping!

Detoxing, even aside from anything else, is something we could all use more of, especially with the many chemicals we subject ourselves to on a daily basis. As these build up, they cause things ranging from fatigue and insomnia to a weakened immune system, inflammation, and migraines.

In short, besides athletes wanting a faster recovery, anyone who thinks they could use a good detox should have a cupping session.

There are very few people who shouldn’t try cupping, but these include people who have a skin condition where the cups would be placed. Also, since it does help you detox, if your kidneys are already struggling, you don’t want to put more work onto them.

  • What Is Cupping Like?

Cupping, in some ways, feels almost like stretching and then holding this position. This makes sense if you consider that this is exactly what cupping is doing: pulling on your muscles.

Both should make your muscles feel tight, to the point of temporarily aching but not hurting. The result is a relief of tension when the cups are removed from your back.

The difference with cupping is the warmth and suction, which stretching doesn’t have and which arguably makes cupping even more effective in some respects than stretching is.

Afterward, the area will stay somewhat tender and may even swell a little, but this shouldn’t last more than a few days. The red circles can even linger up to a couple of weeks.
