What are NormaTec Compression Sleeves?

NormaTec Recovery Systems are dynamic compression devices designed specifically to enhance blood flow, speed up recovery and rehabilitation. Our NormaTec PULSE Recovery systems include attachments which go on the legs, arms or hips.

How do they help with Muscle Recovery?

NormaTec Compression use compressed air to massage your limbs, mobilize fluid, and speed recovery with a pulse massage pattern. The connected attachments will mold to your exact body shape. Each session will begin by compressing your feet, hands, or upper quad (depending on the attachment you are using). Similar to the kneading and stroking done during a massage, each segment of the attachment will first compress in a pulsing manner and then release. This will repeat for each segment of the attachment as the compression pattern works its way up your limb.

Does it feel good?

Of course it feels good! Guaranteed you will have fresher legs, hips, and/or arms after your session. You can ask any of the world’s elite athletes, coaches and trainers — because chances are, they are using NormaTec compression too.   

What is Cryotherapy?

Whole body cryotherapy (WBC) is a safe and natural pain management therapy that elicits the body’s “fight or flight” response to stimulate the production of endorphins and adrenaline, our body’s natural painkillers, to decrease pain and inflammation.

Often times we see professional athletes end every training session by taking the plunge into those dreadful ice baths. Well, Cryotherapy provides the body with even better recovery benefits and results as those traditional ice baths without all the hassle of being wet, in pain, and the time that they require.

Is Cryotherapy cold?

Of course it is! Cryotherapy literally means “cold therapy”. In a 3-minute cryotherapy session, the body will be exposed to hyper cooled air that reach temperatures of approximately -200 °F to -250°F. It is most definitely cold and may get uncomfortable, but it is not painful. It is a dry cold that is a different sensation than being wet cold. You will feel pins and needles sensation during the treatment, but it will disappear as soon as you leave the chamber. Our Recovery Specialist will be with you throughout your entire session.

How does Cryotherapy work?

If you haven’t seen our cryotherapy chamber, it somewhat resembles an upright tanning bed with an open top. Before you step inside, our Recovery Specialist will be sure you are wearing all the appropriate gear before your cryotherapy session officially begins. Clients will be wearing gloves, socks and slippers that Recovery Lab provides in order to prevent any damage to the skin caused by wet or damp skin. As you step inside the chamber, a Recovery Specialist will adjust the lift of the cryotherapy chamber to the appropriate height to have your head sticking out. Once the session starts, cold air that is produced by liquid nitrogen will begin to fill the chamber and flow around you. After the 3-minute session, you are free to warm up and get dressed back into your clothes.

What is Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching?

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) is a more advanced form of flexibility training that involves both stretching and contraction of the muscle group being targeted. It is very effective in targeting specific muscle groups, releasing tension, increasing flexibility and range of motion.

Unlike most stretching routines, Recovery Lab mobility stretch sessions target both fascia and muscles. Fascia is strong, dense connective tissue that surrounds and separates your muscles. When the fascia becomes stressed or tight (due to injury, inflammation, or just everyday activity) it can cause pain and decreased flexibility. We like to target the muscle and fascia in order to release and relieve these negative effects

Who benefits from stretching?

Everyone can benefit from stretching! If you are experiencing stiff, tight muscles and joints, a stretching session with our specialists will help increase your mobility. We are not only stretching the muscle, but are also stretching the ligament and fascia, increasing the mobility of  joints that need to be moving. We have worked with all types of individuals from your weekend warrior to grandparents to elite athletes. Remember mobility is the key to a better life.

What can I expect out of a stretching session?

After a session, you will feel extremely relaxed and comfortable. You may also feel a little sore days after. Soreness is dependent on multiple factors and is different from person to person. You can feel muscle soreness and joint stiffness up to 24-72 hours after session. The cause of the soreness is because we are exposing you to new range of motions that your body is not conditioned to.  After the soreness dissipates, you will feel significant improvement in your range of motion as well as your overall physical well-being. We recommend scheduling sessions on your off day of training or when you are done with your strenuous activities for the day to allow for optimal rehabilitation time.

What should I wear for my stretch session?

Wear loose and comfortable clothing that permits movement in all directions, such as fitness apparel. Please remove jewelry prior to session and have long hair out of the way.

What is Rockblade?

As a part of the Rocktape family, this is an Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM) therapy. However, it is not as painful as you might think, and you don’t need to worry about getting cut. This method focuses in the nervous system and the superficial layers of the body (fascia) through a gentle, yet firm glide of a metal blade over the affected area. And GUESS WHAT? We are working within your pain tolerance zone. New science is telling us muscles are dumb and slow to react. The main focus is in the “fascia trains” which connect different sections of the body to help increase our performance. Activating and deactivating areas that are overworking, or simply not working correctly is the main goal of this therapy to bring relief.

How is this going to help me?

Cupping

You probably remember those dark circle marks that Michael Phelps was sporting during the 2016 Olympics. Actually cupping therapy has been around for thousands of years, however it was not well known until recently as more and more professional athletes have spoken publicly about the benefits of cupping therapy.

What is cupping?

Cupping has been known to help athletes heal and recover from injuries faster and decrease recovery time after undergoing strenuous training. Cupping helps to stimulate the chemical breakdown of toxins that delay muscles and tissue from healing. As the cup is applied, the suction it creates pulls the muscle and tissue beneath it away from the bone. This allows fresh blood and lymphatic fluids to circulate into the gap and removes the inflammation trigger. There are actually two main types of cupping therapy: Traditional Method and Myofascial Decompression. Traditional cupping is a targeted treatment that can help address specific aches and pains. The cups are placed on the skin to create a suction-effect around major muscle groups to increase blood flow to the area. The cups are left on the skin for about 10-or-so minutes. Myofascial Decompression uses the same technique as the traditional method, but the cups are continuously moved or dragged to rid the body of waste/toxins.

Is cupping painful?

Nope, not painful. However, some areas that may hold more tension can be slightly uncomfortable at times and you might experience more soreness. Think of it as a deep-tissue massage, but in reverse. The good news: most clients will experience the benefits of cupping immediately, within their first session.

How long will the cupping marks last?

Generally, cupping marks can last anywhere from three days to a couple weeks. All skin types are different and there’s no real way to know how your body will respond until you try.

When is the best time to have cupping done? How often is it recommended?

If you’re making this part of a training regimen, you definitely want your treatment within 24 hours of a really hard workout. You will also want to give yourself 24 hours recovery before hitting those muscle groups again. On average, clients typically come monthly for cupping, but if this is someone who’s actively training – sessions will be more frequent.

This is an ancient therapy that uses suction cups and pulls the skin, myofascial and muscle up.

What is  Localized Cryotherapy?

Localized Cryotherapy is used to target specific muscle and/or joint areas and can last between 5-10 minutes depending on the treatment area. Similar to Whole Body Cryotherapy, Localized Cryo uses a pressurized stream of nitrogen vapor that is directed onto the affected body part that creates a powerful icing response without any pain or discomfort to the client. Our Recovery Specialists are trained to keep a close watch on the area being treated, closely monitor skin temperature, and be sure that the client is comfortable during treatment.

Localized Cryo produces even better results that exceed hours of the traditional icing treatments. As the cold vapor is applied, the blood vessels constrict which cause an immediate decrease in inflammation and swelling in the affected area by rapidly flushing the tissue of fluid and waste. As the body begins to warm back up, the treated area is flooded with regenerative blood flow allowing for:

  • Decrease in Pain
  • Decrease in Inflammation
  • Decrease in Swelling
  • Greater Range of Motion of the treated area
  • Accelerated Athletic Recovery Time

The benefits of Facials with Localized therapy.

Cryo-Facial treatments are non-invasive using controlled stream of cold nitrogen vapor on the face, neck and scalp. The treatments boost blood flow to all three areas accelerating collagen production and releasing toxins. The collagen decreases pore size and wrinkles resulting in clearer, smoother and tighter skin appearance. Percussion Therapy

No, it’s not a power drill, but it sure sounds like it! Percussion therapy is becoming increasingly popular with athletes as an alternative to typical myofascial release techniques like foam rollers to quickly relieve aching muscles. The science behind percussion therapy is that the strong vibrations and jabbing movements of the device actually helps the muscle to relax, allowing us to effectively release those stubborn muscle knots, relieve sore muscles and get into the deeper layers of the muscle tissues.

Stick Mobility Training

What is What is Stick Mobility?

Stick Mobility is a training system designed to help you move better by improving your mobility, stability, and strength. The system uses the Mobility Sticks as a tool to improve range of motion, muscle activation, coordination, and body awareness to build a strong foundation for enhanced movement.

Why are Stick Mobility exercises more effective than basic stretches?

Stick Mobility uses the formula: joint range of motion + joint stability + neuromuscular drive = mobility.

Stretching by itself lacks these crucial elements.  We know that our muscles get tight for a reason, and no matter how much we stretch, without the right strength levels, they won’t let go. This is typically caused by weakness in one area causing tension in another.

Tighten the hip flexors, like you do when you sit down all day, and your hamstrings will become overactive when you extend the hip. Tightness makes you more susceptible to injury.

The neuromuscular drive benefits from Stick Mobility come as your body is better able to coordinate your muscles as one unified mechanism to produce movement. The better balanced your muscles are, the better they can coordinate your kinetic chain.
