Back Pain

- What Causes Back Pain?
A whole host of things cause back pain.
Ranging from slight to severe, just a few of the examples are minor muscle strains, muscle tears, severe strains, injuries due to accidents, slipped disks, and chronic spinal arthritis or other serious medical conditions directly affecting your back.
With so many causes for pain here, it’s sometimes hard to narrow it down, hence why it’s important to get your doctor’s opinion.
- Can Exercising Cause Back Pain?
The short answer is: yes, and this isn’t just the normal ache your muscles get after working hard.
Most of the more minor back pain coming directly from exercising is because you overestimate how much you’re capable of and/or because you have poor form in doing certain exercises, especially things like lifting weights and doing squats.
The reason why is that bending and moving in incorrect ways puts strain on muscles not meant to handle it, causing pulling and even tearing. Of course, this results in pain.
- Are There Ways To Prevent Back Pain?
Certainly! Here, we’ll just touch on the area of exercising when it comes to pain and preventing it.
With one main reason for back pain when exercising being poor form, as mentioned above, preventing some of this is as simple as correcting your posture. Some of the most common exercises to particularly watch your form are deadlifts, squats, and sit-ups or crunches.
Otherwise, it’s a wise idea to increase the amount of core exercises you do gradually, of course. Doing this will strengthen your core and prevent muscle imbalances between your back muscles and your other muscles, which will prevent the former from getting strained as easily.
