Red Light Therapy

Serving the Greater San Bernardino County Area including Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Fontana, Upland, CA

Red light therapy is a service at Recovery Lab of Rancho Cucamonga to stimulate your body’s cells. The light in this therapy takes advantage of both red and near-infrared light wavelengths; these stimulate the mitochondria inside each one of your cells.

The mitochondria is the piece of your cell that gives it energy, so stimulating this inspires your cells to work faster at their delegated tasks.

Red Light Therapy

  • How Does Red Light Therapy Help with Fitness?
Although red light therapy is often used to help you sleep better, regulate your hormones, and numerous other things, it also has some great potential to help you get fit. This therapy:

  • Reduces Inflammation
  • Improves Joint Health
  • Promotes Healing
  • Lowers Muscle Stress

All of this is accomplished because your cells would eventually do these things anyway; they will just do it faster thanks to the extra energy the red light gives them! For this same reason, it is also thought to help you reduce your weight simply by speeding up your metabolism.

  • Preparing For Your Red Light Therapy Session
Before starting, a Recovery Specialist will give you the basic guidelines. One of these is the need to remove any lotions or creams from your skin before you start to ensure the red light is not blocked by anything and can get straight to your cells.

As jewelry reflects the light, this should also be removed. Otherwise, the only other preparation needed is to get ready to relax and to absorb the light!

  • How Long Does Red Light Therapy Take?
For most, it’s best to start with briefer sessions to get your body used to red light. Short sessions can be as little as 5 to 10 minutes long each, but you will gradually increase these to 20 to 30 minutes.

However, this doesn’t include your preparation time, or however long it takes you to pull yourself away from this often-relaxing therapy, so you’ll want to allot extra time in your schedule for those things!

  • When To Use Red Light Therapy
You can schedule red light therapy sessions either before or after your workouts at our fitness center. Another option is to use this therapy on your rest days. Using it with other recovery methods, like mobility stretching, is also possible.

The only truly vital thing is using red light therapy consistently, whether a couple of times a week or only a couple of times a month. Since red light results are cumulative, the more sessions you have, the more benefits you’ll reap from it.

  • Is Red Light Therapy Safe?
Red light therapy is basically safe. Nonetheless, you shouldn’t ever look directly at the red lights, as this is bad for your retinas. For this reason, Recovery Lab provides what you need to protect your eyes.

Also, skin conditions that make your skin more sensitive to light can make this therapy harmful, as it could cause redness, itching, or burning. This is part of why a Recovery Specialist will talk with you about if this treatment is a good fit for your needs.
