Red Light Therapy

  • The Method Of Red Light Therapy

Simply put, red light therapy is designed to use specific lights to encourage your cells to carry out their tasks.

In more complex terms, light wavelengths in both the red and near-infrared areas are used to stimulate the mitochondria located inside each one of your cells. The mitochondria is the energy source of your cell; so, when it’s stimulated, it makes your cell work faster.

  • What Are Red Light Therapy’s Benefits?

Red light therapy currently has many studies going on regarding its wide array of benefits. Some of the main ones are:

  • Better Sleep
  • Regulated Hormones
  • Improved Healing
  • Weight Loss

With the medical field constantly improving, this therapy could have many more benefits yet to be discovered.

  • How Those Benefits Help With Fitness

Improved healing is just one of the reasons why Recovery Lab offers red light therapy, though this alone is enough of a benefit to make a huge difference in your recovery. Many tough workouts cause tiny muscle tears, which need to heal quickly to reduce the stress on your muscles.

Aside from improved healing, the stimulation of your cells also reduces inflammation. Some of your cells have the job of removing the toxins that build up in your muscles as you work out. Therefore, by getting your cells to work faster, these toxins are removed in a timely manner, lessening the soreness of your muscles later.

  • Before Your Red Light Therapy

You’ll need to set up an appointment at our Recovery Lab location, and our recovery specialist will ask about your goals to see if red light therapy is a good fit for you. After all, though red light is safe for most people, those with skin conditions that make them sensitive to light might react negatively.

During this discussion, you should ask our specialist any questions about it you might have, which we’ll answer for you.

If this therapy is a good fit for your goals, our specialist will tell you exactly what to expect, how long the therapy takes, and everything else you need to know before you have a single session.

  • Red Light Therapy In Practice

To start, our recovery specialist will remind you of the basic guidelines, including how long your therapy will last, that you should never look directly at the red lights, and ensure you are comfortable and have removed any lotion or anything on your skin which might block the light from getting to your skin effectively.

You’ll be given protective glasses for your eyes and be asked to remove jewelry, as this will reflect the light and potentially diminish your results.

A session can be as little as 5 to 10 minutes up to 20 to 30 minutes, but it’s best to use red light in a regular schedule to make the most of the cumulative results.
