Cryotherapy
Whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) exposes your body to extremely cold temperatures for a short period of time, triggering your “fight-or-flight” response that has been shown to influence your nervous system and the release of hormones like adrenaline and endorphins (your feel good hormone!).
Cryotherapy
So, what does that mean for you? Cryotherapy may temporarily help reduce the perception of post-workout soreness and discomfort, making it one more tool to consider as part of your recovery routine!
At Recovery Lab, recovery isn't just about bouncing back from a tough workout. It's about supporting your ability to keep moving, stay active, and show up for what you love!
- What Are the Benefits of Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is an exciting addition to a recovery routine, with potential benefits that may vary from person to person. Cryotherapy has been shown to support:
- Post-Workout Recovery
- Inflammation Management
- Reduced Pain & Soreness
- Immune System Support
- Metabolic Stimulation
- Sleep Support
- Collagen Support
Think of cryotherapy as one potential piece of your recovery puzzle, alongside the essentials like sleep, nutrition, hydration, and rest.
- What to Expect During a Session
Your first cryotherapy session might sound intimidating, but don't worry! Our team is here to guide you every step of the way.
Depending on the equipment at your Recovery Lab location, you'll enter the designated cryotherapy chamber for a brief session, typically lasting 3–6 minutes. You'll experience an intense chill as your body is exposed to extremely cold air.
To help protect your fingers and toes, you'll be provided with gloves and protective socks or footwear. For greater skin exposure, we recommend wearing as little clothing as you're comfortable with while following our safety guidelines. Your Recovery Specialist will walk you through the process so you can feel prepared before your session begins!
- Just How Cold Is It?
Brace yourself… It's COLD!
Depending on the equipment, whole-body cryotherapy chambers can reach temperatures as low as -200°F to -250°F. That's an extreme level of cold, which is why following safety procedures and our team's instructions is essential.
The session is brief, but the experience is intense!
- We Also Offer Localized Cryotherapy!
Give targeted recovery a cool refresh! Localized cryotherapy uses a stream of cold air (down to -30°C) directed at a specific area of the body, making it a quick and focused way to complement your recovery routine.
Whether you're feeling sore after a workout or looking for extra recovery support in a particular area, this service may help temporarily ease discomfort so you can get back to doing what you love.
- Is Cryotherapy Right for Me?
Cold exposure isn't suitable for everyone. Certain heart or circulation conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, cold sensitivity, pregnancy, and other medical considerations may affect whether cryotherapy is appropriate.
If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or are unsure whether cryotherapy is right for you, consult your healthcare provider before your session. Always share relevant health information with your Recovery Specialist before getting started.
Have questions? We're here to walk you through the process, explain what to expect, and help you explore recovery options that fit your goals.
